Intense and magical vision, defying the laws of gravity and equilibrium
La Cote des Montres - April 27th, 2006

Piaget Polo Tourbillon Relatif - Réf. : G0A31123 - Calibre 608P
Suspended from one end of the minute hand, the flying tourbillon carriage appears to be disconnected from the base movement driving it. The hours are read off on a central disc, while the tourbillon carriage is swept along in the rotation of the minute hand.

This exceptional timepiece vividly evokes the principle of relativity. A horological challenge in both technical and aesthetic terms, this new type of tourbillon is the most accomplished expression of the know-how cultivated by the Manufacture de Haute Horlogerie Piaget, embodying its consistent determination to place technical sophistication in the service of design. Expressing the magic of perfect equilibrium, the Piaget Polo Tourbillon Relatif watch marks off time to the rhythm of the new proprietary Calibre 608P, a mechanical hand-wound flying tourbillon movement.

Representing a powerful demonstration of know-how and cutting-edge technology, the three bridges of the tourbillon carriage are crafted in titanium, a particularly resistant and light-weight material. Composed of 42 parts, the carriage – which spins on its axis once per minute, in addition to the hourly rotation around the dial – weighs a mere 0.2 grams! The visual effect thus produced is accentuated by the presence of the Piaget “P” initial. The asymmetrical nature of this decorative feature required meticulous development to ensure the overall aesthetic balance. The new tourbillon movement, Piaget Calibre 608P, beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and is endowed with a 70-hour power reserve. The mainplate is circular-grained and the bridges are hand-bevelled and drawn out with a file. Other decorative motifs such as circular Côtes de Genève and blued screws are inherent to the brand’s aesthetic principles. This exceptional movement is housed in a white gold Piaget Polo case measuring 45 mm in diameter and water-resistant to 30 metres.
