Indian and Atlantic Oceans

Van Cleef & Arpels Seven Seas

November 25th, 2015

Off the African coast, the Atlantic Ocean blends its invigorating waters with the warm currents of the Indian Ocean in a lapping of foam. Home to mysterious fauna, their depths constitute an invitation to an impetuous journey, mid-way between dream and reality.

On the occasion of the Seven Seas collection, Van Cleef & Arpels is honored to support the work of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation. In celebration of its longstanding links with the Principality, the Maison has here drawn inspiration from the Océan transformable necklace – a wedding gift from Prince Albert II of Monaco to Princess Charlene.

The Pangée necklace and earrings revisit the volute theme to suggest the rhythmic rolling of the waves. While sparkling curves recreate the spectacle of light on the moving waters, pear-shaped diamonds strand out on their crests like drops of foam. Set with stones selected according to the most stringent criteria (D and E for color and IF to VVS2 for clarity), these creations continue the tradition of White High Jewelry perpetuated by the Maison since its foundation.

A haven of nature off the coast of Africa, the island of Benguerra has lent its name to this set of exceptional fluidity. In a whirl of stones, different shades of yellow evoke the warm currents of the Indian Ocean meeting the blue waves of the Atlantic with their invigorating spray.

The colors’ intensity is accentuated by a stream of white cultured pearls. Delicately caressing the wrist, the bracelet is accompanied by a long necklace that can be transformed into a short necklace, recreating this precious undulation in the neckline.

In a gracefully feminine posture, a sea fairy seems to rest on a chalcedony reef. This cabochon weighing over 23 carats – its blue delicately tinged with gray – echoes the sapphire and diamond bubbles that mingle in her hair. The figure – adorned with garnets and sparkling yellow sapphires – seems caressed by the currents of the sea. As if escaped from some legend, this watery beauty evokes the full force of attraction of the undersea world.
