Like a sailor on the Arabian Sea, Van Cleef & Arpels crosses waters teeming with sea turtles. With the coming of evening, it admires the reflections of the heavens on the sleeping waves. This sea, whose warm waters caress the shores of India and the Arabian Peninsula, bears the seductive force of Oriental splendors.

With its undulating curves, the Mer des Étoiles ring is inspired by the natural phenomenon of the same name. The glitter of diamonds and sapphires evokes the thousands of luminescent creatures that seem to reflect the starry sky on the seashore.

Tracing a double spiral, the stones illuminate the exceptionally deep blue of a Sri Lankan sapphire weighing 7.29 carats. The latter is enhanced by a bed of meticulously cut chrysoprase, accentuating this creation’s aquatic interplay of colors.

In the Arabian Sea, turtles follow the warm currents out into the open waters. Here, three little creatures swim in Indian file through waves of white gold and diamonds. The piece exudes an impression of vivacity, underscored by the volume of their joyful silhouettes. A thick layer of white mother-of-pearl was carefully sculpted to provide their shells with luster and relief, while their eyes are depicted by delicate sapphire cabochons. With its cheerful sense of movement, this interpretation gives new life to the turtle motif – a traditional animal from the Van Cleef & Arpels menagerie.

A graceful emblem of aquatic fauna, the starfish has inspired a creation of striking dynamism. In homage to the vitality of nature, this clip unfurls its five asymmetric branches in an effect of movement accentuated by the different cuts of the stones. A border of pear-shaped diamonds evokes the rocking motion of the waves, while the tones of the round pink sapphires recreate the enchanting spectacle of the seabed. With its intricate openwork, the body of the piece encourages plays of light, intensified by an elegant diamond flower.
