The first meeting of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione took place in Tuscany to celebrate the arrival this autumn of the Contagiri timepiece. Four years in the making, Contagiri is the result of the creative genius of the Florentine designer and entrepreneur Giuliano Mazzuoli.

Florence, July 2010. What better way for Giuliano Mazzuoli to celebrate the arrival of the Contagiri watch than to organize the first ever meeting of Alfa Romeo 8C automobiles, a luxury Gran Turismo that he owns and to which he has dedicated a version of his exclusive timepiece.

On Friday, July 2 the first ever annual meeting of Alfa 8C owners took place in Florence and they paraded down the streets of the historic city center with their cars. The prestigious automobiles are part of a limited edition series of 500 automobiles made by Alfa Romeo. On Saturday, July 3 the group of cars that came from all over Italy and from many European countries got together at the International Circuit of Mugello to experience the emotion of speed and to enjoy the spectacular sound of the engine as it roared down the race track. Afterwards, the automobiles took off for a tour of the picturesque Tuscan hillsides of the Chianti area where the elegance of the super cars and the grandeur of the countryside made for an unforgettable drive. Before going to a private dinner gala in the medieval castle of Santa Maria Novella, the Alfa 8C stopped for a delicious aperitif in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, where Giuliano Mazzuoli comes from and lives and where his company is based.

The event celebrated authentic values like style, sports passion, tradition, and technical performance. These values can also be found in the Contagiri (tachometer in Italian), a watch in which Giuliano Mazzuoli relives his experience as a racecar driver and his passion for motor sports. The tachometer of a car has a symbiotic relationship with a racecar driver and it is the expression of the motor’s performance. It took four years of development, production planning, prototyping, and international patents to create a jewel of time keeping that is completely made in Switzerland and allows the wearer to relive the emotion that only the absolute equilibrium of mechanical perfection and aesthetic harmony can inspire.



The essential lines and the simple graphics create a revolutionary system to measure the hours and minutes. The watch has one hand that retrogrades after moving across an arc of 270° while pointing to numbers between 0 and 12 indicating the hour. On the side of the case is a stow-away lever that acts like a sort of “gear shift” that allows for the winding of the automatic movement and the setting of the time by turning the bezel.

Combining innovative technology with styling, the watch is protected by 3 international patents. Contagiri has a sporty personality that is also emphasized by the choice of materials used and the attention to detail. One version of the Contagiri is in stainless steel and dlc (diamond-like-carbon) and a black rubber strap. In the more precious version, the elegance of the 18-karat rose gold of the bezel and the case back beautifully contrasts the titanium of the case.

With an 18-karat rose gold and titanium or stainless steel and dlc, a black dial that faithfully reflects the tachometer in the 8C Competizione, this version of Contagiri is limited to 500 pieces and it is meant for the owners of the luxurious Gran Turismo.
