Its number “1950” represents the year of Michel Parmigiani’s birth. The design of its four lugs, round and ergonomic, goes back to the brand’s origins. Inspired by the spiral shape, these instantly recognisable features now represent the brand’s identity code. This piece was chosen for its clean lines, fine profile and the clarity of its proportions - three fundamental criteria of the Parmigiani style.

The dial reveals the beauty of the mechanics. Its concentric circular "grille" shape, made using the LIGA* technique, reveals glimpses of the gear trains.

Its Calibre PF 701 movement, manufactured entirely in-house in the brand’s workshops, is currently one of the thinnest in watchmaking. With its 42-hour power reserve, a 30mm diameter (13 ¼ lignes) and a thickness of just 2.6mm, the movement has an off-centre oscillating micro-weight made from 950 platinum. The Haute Horlogerie finishes make it a prestigious calibre. The nickel silver main plate is sand-blasted, circular-grained and then rhodium-plated. The bridges are sand-blasted, rubbed-down or "Côte de Genève" decorated, and, finally, rhodium-plated.
Made in a limited series of 60 numbered pieces, the Tonda 1950 Edition Spéciale is made from titanium and sports a Hermès alligator strap.
*Creating a "negative" by UV irradiation and resin polymerisation. The part, immersed into an electroplating bath, is created by electroplating material into the mould cavities.
